George Cardinal Pell (1939-2022)

“Don’t spend your life sitting on the fence, keeping your options open, because only commitments bring fulfillment. Happiness comes from meeting our obligations, doing our duty, especially in small matters and regularly, so we can rise to meet the harder challenges.” ~World Youth Day homily, 2008

The Confraternity of Catholic Clergy wish deepest condolences to the whole Church and particularly our brothers in Australia who mourn the loss of a giant of the Faith – George Cardinal Pell. His Eminence was a great friend of the Confraternity, and we will never forget the time he spent with us on our 2010 pilgrimage to the See of Peter in Rome during the Year of the Priesthood. Whether it was through his example, his writings, or his immense sufferings for the sake of Christ, he was a prelate whose whole life and priestly service was a gift to us, his brothers. We will never forget him.

May the angels lead thee into Paradise.
May the Martyrs receive thee at thy coming,
and lead thee into the holy City of Jerusalem.
May the choir of angels receive thee,
and mayest thou have eternal rest with Lazarus, who once was poor.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
Amen.
